Phillip Grass
Phillip's furniture is thought provoking and inspiring while producing a smile.
Phillip is trained in cabinetmaking and wood sculpturing. He studied Fine Arts in Bremen, Germany (BFA 2005) and Furniture Design at Rhode Island School of Design (MFA 2010). Originally from Germany, Phillip has worked as a cabinetmaker and designer in Germany and Denmark, creating custom furniture and sculptures. He is now based in NYC and Copenhagen offering custom furniture design.

Tante Emma and Her Nephew Max - Phillip Grass

Tante Emma looks fast with her two engine like shapes, but the fast look does not make her any lighter; she is forced to stay on the ground, trapped by her own weight.Her nephew max has only a head and legs, and as he does not want to use his head as a turbine he stays grounded as well. Tante Emma and her nephew Max are carved out of solid walnut, the traces of the rasp used to shape the forms are filled with silver paint. Both pieces are clear coated. Tante Emma serves as a chair and her nephew Max as a stool, the backrest of Tante Emma can also be used as an armrest when sitting the other way and her nephew Max is a solid support for everyday seating. Currently in the showroom.
