Nine Stories Furniture
Nine Stories Furniture Co. is a small design studio which hales originally from the far eastern reaches of manhattan's Loisaida Ave (Ave C). Founded and run by AndrewRumpler, Nine Stories Furniture is half of what was a larger business plan, which included the design, construction, and management of LOUIS, a bar at 649 east 9th St. Dedicated to the memory of the great Louis Armstrong, the bar and the studio were run in tandem by Mr. Rumpler from 1999 until 2004. Later LOUIS was sold, and Nine Stories moved to its current location in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Though Mr. Rumpler works in a range of mediums, Nine Stories has been focused in recent years on the ongoing "Elsie Series", based on the harvesting and reuse of automotive sheet metal in a line of home furnishings. The series was first exhibited at ICFF 08 and still functions as the studio's main platform from which to explore this unusual pairing of material and use
