Baltic Birch plywood
It's inspired by the capital of an Ionic column. Instead of the look of dense stone, I wanted to extract the lines of the form to create a light, spacious and resilient bench in which a person sits in the middle - framed on either side by two big, luxurious scrolls. Made from 1" thick Baltic Birch plywood, the bench's profile is cut out 18 times with the use of CNC technology. The slices are laminated together for a strong curvaceous form. The surfaces that reveal the plies are finely sanded, and coated with a high-quality Italian acrylic; the result is a seat that is sensuously smooth to the touch. The Ionic Bench is perfect for an entry foyer, or at the foot of a bed, or silhouetted against a picture window. The scrolls can be used for storage, such as for shoes or magazines.

Cork has tremendous potential to perform in ways unlike any other material, as well as being an environmentally responsible material. This piece shows the material’s ability to bend in two directions simultaneously, creating complex three-dimensional forms laminated from a flat sheet. The pliability of the material allows the user of this lounge to rock gently from side to side or on her back with a great degree of stability. The result is a sensation of floating, weightless and totally supported.

Tatum's Lounge is an experimental yet functional chair that explores the structural possibilities of using reclaimed piano keys as a building material. Weighing only 6 pounds the chair can hold 25 times it's weight (150lbs). The name of the piece is a play on the word Lounge, referring both to a place in which jazz piano music is played, and the semi-reclined style of seating. Available in Walnut, Cherry, Reclaimed Pine, or Mixed Dark woods. Works well as an end table, stool, or pair two together for a coffee table. Custom sizes and shapes available. The BILGE LOUNGE is made from reclaimed bourbon barrel staves and used truck springs. The Küpe line is crafted from used bourbon barrels from Bardstown, Kentucky, the Bourbon Capital of the world. The barrels are constructed from new white oak and charred on the inside to produce the unique flavor and color of the bourbon. The BILGE LOUNGE is made from reclaimed bourbon barrel staves and used truck springs. The Küpe line is crafted from used bourbon barrels from Bardstown, Kentucky, the Bourbon Capital of the world. The barrels are constructed from new white oak and charred on the inside to produce the unique flavor and color of the bourbon. Using a simple technique of heating plastic to a malleable state and then quickly free forming it by hand, dozens of form studies were created, each evolving slowly into a more dynamic and functional form. The milled surface texture of evenly spaced grooves add bold and graphic definition to the undulating, organic shape. The chair is made from 3form’s Varia Ecoresin, composed of at least 40% post-industrial recycled material. In the tradition of Uhuru’s signature Stoolen, which is made from locally collected scrap wood, the Metal Stoolen was born from scrap material in the Uhuru metal shop. Every process creates some kind of scrap; the key is to find a product that can utilize the increasingly small pieces that result. In this case, the scraps were leftover lengths of steel that were too short to be used in furniture production. Improvising in the shop one day, the Uhuru designers discovered that, when cut down to the same length and grouped haphazardly, the scraps produced a dynamic pattern filled with what the Japanese call “empty space”—negative space that is as important as the solid materials themselves. The bright powder coating protects the metal and highlights the relationship between the object and the empty space that surrounds it. Custom colors are available for powder coated steel frame. All our items are hand built to order in Red hook, Brooklyn and available in custom sizes and finishes.
