Piet Houtenbos
Born on Halloween in 1978, Piet is a tried and tested redheaded New Yorker (unlike his enormous Dutch family) who earned his Industrial Design degree at the Rhode Island School of Design in 2001. Since then he has honed his talents and developed an eye for design that is universal. His ability to generate fresh ideas comes from a strong will to understand everything from the big bang to why manhole covers are round. He believes that design shouldn't be done for its own sake, but instead Piet wants to show people that just about anything has the potential to be better. He has designed and developed a line of modern scandinavian inspired bamboo furniture for New York furniture showroom Modernlink. Piet's early success with the Hand Grenade Oil Lamps has led to a small series of independent products sold throughout the United States and worldwide. Piet is currently working as a freelance designer and is expanding the designs in his own company.

"When designing modern rectilinear furniture the experience of woodgrain can get lost. When you begin to shape a piece of wood with a gentile curve along it's length or a radius on a corner you can pull out it's inherent beauty and begin to subtely compliment the meandering nature of woodgrain." -Piet Houtenbos Currently in the showroom.
