Reclaimed automotive sheet metal, steel, stainless steel
All of the works in the Elsie Series, as here in the ELSIE SIDE, are made from 70-80% reclaimed sheet metal, salvaged in such a way so as to preserve the original factory applied surface. Some of these surfaces are weathered and worn, where others are bright and almost glossy. This process of working with this "harvested" material necessitates a collage-maker’s thought process. Though the studio can never duplicate a piece exactly, it relishes in the fact that each is by its nature a new composition or canvas. As Andrew puts it, "Choosing the colors for each of these pieces is a one-time event, as if with paints from a long lost palette; the rest is a system of design."
